The $2Billion Sales Letter

One of the habits of successful copywriters is to copy the methods of others.  Not the words, but the styles.

A number of marketers I’ve learned from say to get one of the more successful letters and copy it, word for word, in you own handwriting.  By the time you’re finished writing out a few of these long letters a couple or three times each, you will have taught your brain to think more like a copywriter.  By learning from multiple people, you will merge styles and find yourself somewhere in the middle.  You will be influenced by the masters, without becoming an exact copy.

The man who first taught me the skill of copywriting is Ray Edwards.  His Copywriting Academy shifted the way I write significantly, and all of my writing has gotten better.  I write better reports, better technical papers, and better emails.  My ads are reasonably successful, and my speaking engagements make the point easier.

Copywriting Academy is structured as a series of videos in a specific sequence that taught me how to move from a boring ‘wall of text’ into a story that flows naturally.  Along with it is templates to help the student model their writing from him.  There are regular coaching calls where student work is reviewed and critiqued.  (I was devastated when he ripped mine apart, but it was infinitely better when I did it his way.) And there’s a Facebook group for peer reviews of the homework.  It’s a closed community of helpful people.
